In a peculiar circumstance, Bradburn is named Pakistan's head coach.

The Pakistan cricket board announced Grant Bradburn as the new head coach in a most understated manner on Friday, while Mickey Arthur's possible comeback remained a mystery.

According to recent sources, Arthur was almost certain to take over as the "consultant team director" for the national team. Najam Sethi, the temporary head of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Management Committee, has been loud about the pursuit of Arthur's appointment.

The PCB's press release, which featured a list of the player support staff for Pakistan's upcoming five-match T20 and One-day International series against New Zealand, did not mention Arthur at all.

The PCB, however, was stated to "confirm the Pakistan team management for post-New Zealand series pending the conclusion of the required recruitment processes, which are currently continuing," according to the statement.

Dawn is aware that the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority's (PPRA) regulations, which demand that government and semi-government organisations post job openings that provide salaries of Rs100,000 or more, are to blame for the delay in Arthur's appointment.

As late as the final week of March, the PCB posted job openings for Pakistan's team director, head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, and strength and conditioning coach with an application deadline of April 17.

Only after Arthur indicated his willingness to accept the team director position and provided names of support staff members he wished to collaborate with did the advertisement go out. These names included Bradburn, Andrew Puttick, and former South African pacer Morne Morkel for the positions of batting coach and bowling coach, respectively.

Any of the appointments must be made prior to the April 17 deadline, according to a source close to the PCB, "to guarantee that all interested candidates are given a fair playing field."

However, because Bradburn, Puttick, and Drikus Saaimon are part of Pakistan's player support staff for the New Zealand series, they will have a significant advantage over other candidates for the position of strength and conditioning coach.

The source claims that Bradburn and Puttick, who were selected by Arthur, have been given "an opportunity to come to Pakistan" in order to comprehend the surroundings, interact with the players, and "finish the process." On April 11, the pair joins the Pakistani team, which convened at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday for the team's training camp in preparation for the New Zealand matches.

The formal process is extremely unlikely to interfere with Arthur's preparations for the Pakistan team, as Abdul Rehman, who led the team in the most recent T20 series against Afghanistan, will act as assistant coach for the New Zealand tour. Umar Gul, a former Pakistani pacer, will keep up his role as bowling coach.

Rehan-ul-Haq, the newly appointed team manager, and analyst Hassan Cheema also joined the group. The pair, who have worked together for HBL Pakistan Super League team Islamabad United since the league's debut in 2016, are renowned for their data-driven approach and belief in contemporary cricketing techniques.
