Founder of Cash App and MobileCoin executive Robert Lee was assassinated in San Francisco.
According to the cryptocurrency platform and police, Bob Lee, a technology professional who founded Cash App and was presently chief product officer of MobileCoin, was fatally stabbed in San Francisco early on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a report of a stabbing on Main Street at 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday and discovered a 43-year-old man with what appeared to be stab wounds. At a hospital, the victim passed away.
Although the victim's identity was not released by the police, MobileCoin verified Lee's passing on Wednesday in response to an email from The Associated Press.
According to MobileCoin CEO Josh Goldbard, "our beloved friend and colleague, Bob Lee, passed suddenly yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators."
According to Goldbard, Lee was "built for the new world."
He said, "Bob had an influence that will live well beyond his brief time on earth, from huge contributions to Android at Google, to becoming the first CTO of Square, at that time establishing Cash App, and working with us here at Mobilecoin.
According to Goldbard, Lee joined MobileCoin as an early stage investor and counsellor before rising to the position of chief product officer and aiding with the Moby app's debut.
When Square, a provider of online payments, unveiled the 2013 version of Cash App, Lee served as its chief technology officer.
There were no specifics on the circumstances surrounding the stabbing in the police statement. Early on Wednesday, messages sent for the department's media relations office went unanswered.

Soon later, NBC Bay Area reported that 43-year-old Bob Lee was the stabbed victim. In a statement provided to Bloomberg and ABC7 News, MobileCoin confirmed the details.
Bob Lee worked with Google during the early years of Android, concentrating on core library development, before joining MobileCoin. To create Square's Android app, he later joined Square, the payments firm that ultimately changed its name to Block.
He founded Cash App and rose to the position of the company's first CTO.
Bob Lee, sometimes referred to as "Crazy Bob," invested in computer start-ups. He made investments in companies like SpaceX, Clubhouse, Tile, Figma, Faire, Orchid, Addressable, Nana, Ticket Fairy, Gowalla, Asha, SiPhox, Netswitch, Found, and others, according to his LinkedIn page.
The tech community had an outpouring of grief after hearing the news. "It's true. receiving calls. Heartbreaking. Bob was crucial to the success of Square and Cash App. STL person," commented Block CEO Jack Dorsey on nostr.
"Sorry to hear about @crazybob's premature passing. He didn't care that I was only 14 when I first met him in the summer of 2006, and we geeked out over technology and programming. He was an early supporter of Figma, and we stayed in touch over the years. It's really difficult to accept that he is no longer with us, Figma CEO Dylan Field tweeted.
