The Afghan skipper, Rashid Khan, is pleased with his team's maiden T20 victory over Pakistan.

Rashid Khan, the captain of Afghanistan, praised the team's first T20 triumph over Pakistan but noted that the front-line hitters must develop before the 50-over World Cup in India later in the year.

With six wickets, Rashid and his teammates humiliated a revamped Pakistan in the opening T20 International played in Sharjah on Friday.

Mohammad Nabi scored an unbeaten 38 in the low-scoring match to go along with his two wickets with the ball, and they were able to restrict the young Pakistani team, captained by Shadab Khan, to 92-9 and chase down the mark with 13 balls remaining.

Rashid remarked after the victory, "It's a delight to win as we've always lost against them, sometimes by narrow margins.

"We're happy about the victory and aim to keep up the momentum."

Although Afghanistan slipped to a 27-3 deficit until Nabi saved them, the pursuit was not simple.

The top order needs to play well in the current three-match series, according to Rashid, and keep up this form through the ODI World Cup in October-November.

Rashid stated that "we need to improve not just for this series but as we approach the World Cup."

"We must now work hard, day by day and game by game, so that at the end of the year, when we attempt to qualify for the World Cup, we will have a properly prepared group."

Sunday is the day of the second T20.

Afghan humility Pakistan

At Sharjah Stadium, Nabi not only grabbed 2-12, but he also received helpful support from Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2-9) and pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi (2-13) to limit Pakistan to 92-9 after they won the toss and chose to bat.

Then, Nabi maintained his composure with a careful run-per-ball score of 38 not out. He then scored 53 runs for the fifth wicket, unbroken, with Najibullah Zadran (17 not out), assisting Afghanistan in reaching the mark in 17.5 overs.

Following two more boundaries from Naseem Shah in the following over, Nabi smashed a six off Ihsanullah to secure the victory. Nabi's first boundary came off the 27th ball.

With Afghanistan struggling at 45-4, pace bowler Ihsanullah (2-17) dismissed Ibrahim Zadran (nine) with the first ball of his T20I career before dismissing Gulbadin Naib (nought). But, Nabi and Najibullah saw to it that victory was secured.

Pakistan gave T20I debuts to Saim Ayub, Tayyab Tahir, Ihsanullah, and Zaman Khan as a result of the rest of five key players, including the captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf.

On a Sharjah Stadium field that aided Afghanistan's three-pronged spin attack, Pakistan was 41-5 in the eighth over.

Imad Wasim led the way with 18 runs, followed by Ayub (17), Tahir (16), and captain Shadab Khan (12).
