In order to ease concerns over travel between Pakistan and India, PCB advises a "model."

Given the political ties between the two neighbouring countries, the Pakistan Cricket Board asked senior International Cricket Council officials to take into account a "hybrid model" for Pakistan and India in the upcoming events.

The Asia Cup, the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup later this year, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 are two of the top three 50-over tournaments that will take place in either Pakistan or India.

Najam Sethi, the interim chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Management Committee, suggested ICC officials, including chairman Greg Barclay and chief executive Geoff Allardice, look into the possibility of India and Pakistan playing at neutral venues during the events in question because it is unlikely that both teams will travel to either country for the tournaments.

According to knowledgeable sources, Dawn has been told that Sethi's offer was made last week outside of the ICC Board meetings and that it garnered a "encouraging response" from the organization's top brass.

The parties involved referred to the settlement as the "hybrid model," and it is anticipated to be implemented in time for the Asia Cup, which Pakistan will host in September.

The Asian Cricket Council, the PCB, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India have previously conducted talks over the issue, but the ACC has not yet made an official decision.

According to the PCB offices, the ICC is in hot water over the matter because the World Cup and Champions Trophy match between Pakistan and India, which is expected to draw large crowds, could be jeopardised if either team pulls out of one or both events.

India has consistently refused to cross the border due to pressure from the Indian government over the years, despite Pakistan's threats to withdraw from the World Cup in case they are denied the hosting rights for the Asia Cup if they refuse to attend.

Officials with the PCB feel that given Pakistan's importance as a cricketing nation and the ICC's desperation to find solutions, its premier competitions will become mired in controversy.

Additionally, sources claim that the ICC would like to find solutions given that Pakistan was handed the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy despite knowing that India will probably not visit the nation.

Contrary to the PCB's assertion, Dawn is aware that the ICC does not believe that the Pakistan-India dispute will affect the World Cup.

Dawn believes that the ICC is pushing forward with its preparations for the World Cup in India and is not at the moment trying to move any of the tournament's games.
