At the Women's T20 World Cup, Pakistan defeats Ireland thanks to a century from Muneeba Ali.
Muneeba Ali, a wicketkeeper who can also bat, provided Pakistan with a decisive victory over Ireland on Wednesday in Cape Town's Women's T20 World Cup.
After back-to-back victories in the first two games, England and India claimed first and second place in the group, respectively, and the 70-run victory moved Pakistan into third place with two points. On February 12, Pakistan was defeated by India in the tournament's opening match.
Muneeba, according to Cricinfo, became the sixth player to reach 100 points in a T20 World Cup and the first woman to do it for Pakistan in a T20 International match.
After the squad successfully defended 165 runs, the Pakistani bowlers reduced the Irish batting side to a meagre total of 95. Nashra Sandhi claimed four victims, followed by Nida Dar and Sadia Iqbal, who each claimed two, and Tuba Hassan, who claimed one.
In addition to Dar's 33 in the middle stages of the innings, Muneeba's 102 off 68 balls, which enabled Pakistan post a respectable total at a cost of five wickets, was a significant contribution for Team Green. The double digits could only be reached by one player.
Following her game-winning strike, Muneeba thanked her batting partner Dar for motivating her at a vital juncture in the innings.
"I went out there feeling really confident. I believed it would be my day and I could make it count when I started the powerplay," she added.
"After that, Nida and I were partners, and she always encouraged me to keep playing and make tremendous gains.
"Therefore, after the 12th or 13th, I believed I could reach 100, and she encouraged me. I was using my feet to play while attempting to discern where they were attempting to bowl and devise a strategy to locate a boundary, Muneeba said.
"I want to give my (Player of the Match) honour to my colleagues and captain, Bismah Maroof. While we fought a lot and played poorly (against India), everyone is thrilled today.
On Sunday in Paarl, Pakistan will play their upcoming game against the West Indies.
