The creative filmmaker claims that "The Way of Water" will "easily" surpass the break-even point at the box office and that as a result, he "can't squirm out" of producing additional sequels.

James Cameron claims "Avatar 2" is financially successful and he will produce the sequels.

We'll see more of the enormous blue cat eco-aliens: At the box office, Avatar: The Way of Water will "easily" surpass the break-even point, according to director James Cameron, who also confirmed that there will be additional Avatar sequels.

Who's Talking to Chris Wallace on HBO Max featured the filmmaker on this week's programme. and noted that the worldwide box office for his highly-budget sequel has surpassed $1.5 billion (surpassing Top Gun: Maverick to become the highest-grossing film released in 2022).

Cameron said, "It looks like I can't get out of this; I'm going to have to make these other sequels. Just with the momentum that the movie has now, that will easily pass our break even in the next few days" (with presumably some feigned reluctance, given his obvious dedication and enthusiasm for his franchise). "I am certain about my plans for the next six to seven years.

We will be okay, that is the key message. With Avatar 3 now in the can (we've already captured and photographed the entire film, so we're in extended post-production to do all the CG magic), I'm sure we'll have a conversation with the senior Disney officials shortly about the game plan moving ahead. The writing for Avatar 4 and 5 follows. Even 4 is in a can with us. This is where we start a franchise. Our story has now started a narrative that could span several pictures.

Cameron previously made waves when it seemed like he predicted that The Way of Water would need to gross at least $2 billion in order to break even and support a sequel. To be clear, Cameron stated, "I never actually gave it a number. "I said it had to be one of the most successful movies ever, and someone else used that figure, and it got picked up. Actually, the number is lower.

According to insiders who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, The Way of Water had a production budget of more than $400 million and a marketing budget of at least $600 million.

The franchise is moving through the four elements, Cameron hinted in a recent interview with the French daily 20 Minutes, and a new Na'vi clan with a focus on fire will be introduced in a later movie. Also, that the new clan wouldn't be as bucolic and upright as the Na'vi tribes that were based in the forests and on the sea that had previously been introduced.

The "Ash People" will stand in for the fire, according to Cameron. "Up until now, I have only portrayed the positive aspects of the Na'vi, therefore I want to present them in a different light. Very poor human examples coexist with excellent Na'vi ones in the early movies. In Avatar 3, we'll go the other direction. Along with continuing the story of the main protagonists, we will also explore other realms. I can predict that the best sections will be at the end. The others served as an introduction and a means of setting the table before the food was served.

Wallace and the filmmaker also talked about the idea of using Titanic as a metaphor for social indifference to climate change.

Since they believed they could get away with it and the unfathomable wouldn't occur, Cameron said, "The captain died with a pocket full of radio telegram warnings about ice ahead but they still steamed full bore." And it did, he added. We "live in the ninety seconds from the moment they sighted the iceberg to the moment they were unable to turn."

The release date of Avatar 3 is set for December 20, 2024 (assumed there are no delays).
