Mickey Arthur is expected to be named Pakistan's team Online Head-Coach

Mickey Arthur might reappear as the head coach of Pakistan.

It is known that the coach, who is presently with Derbyshire, has spoken with Najam Sethi, who brought Arthur on board in 2016.

Mickey Arthur had success with Pakistan in his previous role, leading them to the Champions Trophy 2017 championship.

After being fired as PCB boss, Ramiz Raja said, "It has turned into a comedy."

Change is coming as PCB returns to its pre-2019 ambitions.

All bodies established following the 2019 revision to the PCB's constitution, proposed by then-prime minister Imran Khan and carried out by Ehsan Mani, have been dissolved by Sethi's 14-member committee, constituted by current prime minister Shahbaz Sharif. Aside from that, Shahid Afridi has taken over as interim head selector in lieu of Mohammad Wasim, who was previously chair of the PCB under Ramiz Raja.

Three years after he was denied a contract extension, the PCB is eager to reassign Mickey Arthur to his previous position as head coach of the Pakistan men's team.

Saqlain Mushtaq, the team's head coach right now, has informed ESPNcricinfo that the PCB intends to replace him when his contract expires at the end of the month.

With committee chair Najam Sethi admitting that he has spoken with Arthur, the PCB's new management committee, which assumed over last week, has decided to contact Arthur once more. Between 2016 and 2019, Arthur served as Pakistan's head coach. During this time, the side won the 2017 Champions Trophy and reached the top of the ICC T20I team rankings.

After Pakistan finished sixth in the 2019 ODI World Cup, he was fired, and Misbah-ul-Haq was granted the twin position of head coach and chief selector.

Mickey Arthur and the PCB are nearing an agreement that will see Arthur return to the Pakistan men's squad, albeit as team director rather than as head coach as before. Three weeks prior to the PCB's announcement that it was pressing forward with its search for a successor to Saqlain Mushtaq, the departing Pakistan coach, talks between the two parties had come to an end.

Given that Arthur had a long-term contract with Derbyshire that he does not wish to cancel, the two parties had been unable to come to an agreement on how such a post could function. However, the interim chairman of the PCB Najam Sethi confirmed last week that he was still looking for Arthur.

. According to ESPNcricinfo, a deal will soon be finalised, and Arthur might take over as team director on April 1.

This will result in an unique management system, at least on a global scale, where Arthur won't travel with the Pakistan squad on every tour but will instead delegate responsibility to a hand-selected team of support personnel. Grant Bradburn, a former Pakistani fielding coach and former director of their High Performance Center, is slated to serve as the team's top assistant coach and serve as a leader among the support personnel. There won't be a typical head coach, but there will be three coaches for batting, bowling, and fielding.

Arthur won't be actively involved with the team during the English county season; Pakistan, for instance, will tour Sri Lanka in July and will host the Asia Cup in September. However, following the conclusion of the county season, Arthur is anticipated to travel with the team for important events like the ODI World Cup in India in October-November of this year and the Test tour of Australia later in the winter. One of the issues still being resolved is the contract's term, but both parties agree that Pakistan's timeline is such that such an agreement is feasible.

Rehan-ul-Haq, the general manager of PSL team Islamabad United and a well-known TV pundit, is likely to be one of Arthur's more intriguing hires. On paper, he is supposed to be the team manager, but his responsibilities go much beyond the more typical administrative responsibilities of managers. Rehan is one of the guys credited with developing the data-driven strategy at Islamabad United, a two-time PSL champion, thus his role may be more akin to a chief of staff for Arthur, driving the team environment.

The 2017 Champions Trophy is held by Mickey Arthur.

Between 2016 and 2019, Arthur served as the Pakistan team's head coach. During this time, the team had a largely successful run in white-ball cricket, winning the Champions Trophy in 2017 and transforming their limited-overs teams. Following a disappointing performance in the 2016 T20 World Cup, Arthur helped a T20 team led by Sarfaraz Ahmed turn things around and elevate them to the top of the ICC rankings, where they had lagged behind other Full Members. There were also significant Test results, however it was more difficult to change the red-ball side. Pakistan nearly missed making it to the World Cup's last four due to one significant early loss, and Arthur was quickly replaced by Misbah-ul-Haq.

More importantly, Arthur's return will bring him back together with several players, including captain Babar Azam, whose growth he helped shape early on in his first tenure. Babar had a difficult transition into Test cricket, but Arthur stayed with him and witnessed his ascent with the white ball. Others have also discussed the influence Arthur has had on their careers, including Sarfaraz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, and Shadab Khan. After his employment in Pakistan, Arthur spent some time in Sri Lanka. Since then, he has worked for Derbyshire.
