The competition, Asia Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan, will be held on a neutral site, according to the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board.
According to the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Indian cricket team won't be going to Pakistan for the Asia Cup next year. The competition will take place at a neutral location, according to Jay Shah, who is also the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Since Pakistan toured India for a white-ball only series in 2012–2013, the two nations have not played any bilateral cricket matches due to tense political tensions.
Unlike in the past, the BCCI did not have a formal media briefing. The office holders would meet with the media informally on Tuesday, according to information provided to the press. The reporters were instructed to surrender in their phones prior to the chat and were instead given notepads.
"A neutral location will host the Asia Cup in 2023," Shah informed the media following the BCCI AGM. "I am stating this as President of the ACC. They cannot come here, and neither can we [India]. The Asia Cup has historically taken place at a neutral site. When Shah addressed the media, the newly elected officers of the BCCI, including president Roger Binny, treasurer Ashish Shelar, and board vice-president Rajiv Shukla, were there.
To discuss the issue, let alone to make a formal decision, the ACC has not yet convened. This has sparked debate within the PCB as to Shah's speaking authority on the subject and his decision to do so at a BCCI AGM. According to a PCB representative, the board will not be responding at this time. However, a forceful response is not ruled out; for instance, there has already been discussion inside the board about leaving the ACC. The PCB is anticipated to write to the ACC on the remarks.
In addition, Shah's remarks may have some influence on ICC events, two of which will take place in Pakistan and India in the coming years. Following the Asia Cup, India is slated to host the 2023 ODI World Cup, and Pakistan is slated to host the 2025 Champions Trophy. It remains to be seen how those tournaments will be affected if Pakistan and India are unable to face each other. At the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, Pakistan needed permission from their government to visit, and they only received it just in time. The ICC is not likely to make a statement at this time.
The last time Pakistan visited India was for the 2016 ICC tournament, whereas the last time India visited Pakistan was for the 2008 Asia Cup. Since Pakistan's 2012–2013 tour of India for a white-ball only series, the two nations have not played any bilateral cricket due to deteriorating political ties.
The teams will meet again at the T20 World Cup in Melbourne on October 23 after their August-September 2022 Asia Cup match in the United Arab Emirates. Now there will undoubtedly be a little more tension in the air before that game. There is dissatisfaction with the remarks at least within the PCB, especially given that Shah made them following a BCCI AGM, which
